Mission:Empowering marginalized young people to uplift themselves and others through experiential and academic education. Our CORE is a 501(c)3 organization designed to umbrella programs that were created in support of our youth. Our mission is to empower marginalized young people to uplift themselves and others through experiential and academic education. The programs under the purview of Our CORE Inc. are: ? Chris Page- Future Heroes Scholarship ? Youth and Community agricultural programming ? Girls to Ladies The Chris Page-Future Heroes Scholarship was created to honor a young man whose passing was an immeasurable loss to our community. We hope to foster Chris Page’s greatest characteristics with the support this scholarship will bring. While working on this scholarship, other people were inspired to extend the idea, and we’ve created an award for a student who will work in the medical field, a fund for Newburgh Free Academy nursing students to have modest needs met, and a fund to assist teen parents at NFA North. Thus far, tw students have been awarded scholarships to attend SUNY Albany and Mount St. Mary College. With the support of Newburgh Urban Food and Farming initiative, the youth agriculture programming has taken shape as an urban agriculture internship. We contracted with the Summer Youth Employment Program to employ teens at the Downing Park Urban Farm as urban agriculture interns?. We want to maintain an ongoing paid internship for youth at the farm for 2-3 years with narrowing focus on skills that will help them become entrepreneurs. Alternately, they can position themselves as community leaders and innovators in addressing the unique needs of urban growers, or combating nutritional and environmental effects of poverty by educating and influencing neighbors and political entities regarding growing food and caring for the earth. The longest-running of these projects, Girls to Ladies?, just finished its 14th year of helping girls reach their potential, develop their own skills and talents, and experience new challenges as they grow into ladies. Girls to Ladies is about empowerment. Our goal is for the girls to understand, develop and appreciate their and others' power. We meet weekly to talk, cook, watch movies, read, volunteer, listen to guest speakers, & attend cultural, social, academic events. We explore issues the girls face and focus on life skill development such as conflict resolution, self-advocacy, resistance of peer pressure, personal wellness, time, money & academic management, and community action.
