Research Institute Without Walls (RIWW) brings LGBT mental health and human rights together. Research Institute Without Wall's community-based research brings together researchers, activists, attorneys, service providers, and clinicians who are interested in documenting the human rights, mental health needs, and resilience of LGBT persons around the world. RIWW is conducting the first study on the impact of immigration detention on LGBTI mental health. The study is in collaboration with Physicians for Human Rights (PHR). RIWW is looking for participants who are LGBT asylum seekers that have been in immigration detention and were granted, or still seeking asylum (or withholding of removal) based on being LGBT. Participation is confidential and can be anonymous. Interviews are conducted by telephone, Skype, or in person. Persons will be paid $15 for their participation. RIWW has two main areas of research and training: (1) the impact of human rights violations on sexual minorities’ mental health and HIV prevention; and (2) the mental health challenges and needs of LGBT asylum seekers and refugees.
