Cause Description:
A learning center which was developed to assist public housing and Section 8 families in need of a GED diploma and/or computer literacy training. This program has expanded to the community and is free to all participants. The center continues to expand and now offers 2 very rewarding programs for youth. (1) Youth ages 10 to 18 learn through lecture and hands-on training how to build a computer. At the end of the session, each child is rewarded with the computer that they themselves built to take home. (2) Youth from ages 6 to 18 develop artistic designs via drawings or computer software such as photoshop and tee shirt graphics. They are then taught how to design tee shirts and produce using a professional level heat press. (Only the teen aged youth are permitted to use the press). Additionally, they are taught about inventory, sales etc. The link below is to a facebook page which has numerous pictures of the students, as well as flyers for the programs. There is no charge to participants, the programs are supported by grants.
