Cause Description:
Each child or youth (ages 6-17) in residence has his or her own story of how and why they came to Murphy-Harpst Children's Centers. Most have been abused or neglected. Some have experienced various other forms of severe trauma. All have developed negative self images. Their behaviors range from self destructive and suicidal to just troublesome and unruly. Most do not understand that their behavior is inappropriate. And they see no reason to change. Our goals are to provide individual treatment to help these troubled children gain control of their behavior through therapy and learning; to help them learn how to make and build healthy relationships by behaving in socially acceptable ways; to provide opportunities for education and spiritual enrichment that will be suited to their special difficulties.
