FRAGILE X Syndrome is the most commonly inherited cause of developmental disability, affecting approximately 1 in 2000 males and 1 in 4000 females worldwide. It is second only to Down Syndrome as a chromosomal cause of mental retardation. Both males and females may be affected with a wide variety of symptoms. FRAGILE X Syndrome appears in children of all ethnic, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.
