American Pet Nutrition

Makers of Vita Bone® dog treats and Supreme Source™ grain-free pet food will help nonprofit continue serving people in need through animal visits

OGDEN, Utah, Jan. 26, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — American Pet Nutrition (APN), the family-owned pet food company known for such trusted brands as Vita Bone® Biscuits and Chewy Sticks and Supreme Source™ premium grain-free dog and cat foods, and the nonprofit Pet Partners (www.PetPartners.org) are teaming up to help people through animal-assisted interactions. APN supports Pet Partners – the nation’s largest nonprofit to promote animal-assisted therapy, education and other activities – as a new corporate sponsor.

With APN’s help, Pet Partners will continue to bring the healing power of pets to people in need – from patients, the elderly, veterans and other deserving groups. Pet Partners provides animal-assisted interactions with dogs and 8 other species. With the highest-caliber curriculum in the industry, Pet Partners evaluates handlers and their animals for visiting programs in hospitals, nursing homes, veterans’ centers, hospice facilities, Alzheimer’s facilities, courtrooms, schools and other settings.  Last year, Pet Partners teams made more than 1 million visits in all 50 states to people in need.

“All of us at American Pet Nutrition have dedicated our careers to the health and happiness of pets everywhere, because we know what joy they can bring,” said Bill Behnken, president and chief executive officer of American Nutrition, Inc. “That’s why we’re pleased to be part of the great work that Pet Partners is doing. Their therapy teams make a positive impact in people’s lives every day.”

Behnken and the APN family share Pet Partners’ belief that the relationship between human and animal is a meaningful connection that enhances the lives of both people and pets.

“We are excited to have the support of APN and look forward to the company’s assistance with our efforts to educate, demonstrate and advocate animal-assisted therapy,” said Traci Pryor, senior director, national strategic partnerships at Pet Partners.

A family-owned American company, APN is committed to providing the highest quality and safest pet food and treats on the market. Founded in 1972 by Bill’s father, Jack Behnken, the pet food maker still adheres to the philosophy Jack exhibited when he asked the question: “If our pets are family members, shouldn’t we apply the same attention to quality and safety to pet food, that we apply to our own?” Bill expects the same level of quality implied by the answer to that question from more than 40 years ago to every product that goes out the door today.

“We still develop our own recipes based on the highest-quality ingredients. And by following the strictest safety and quality standards, we continue to earn the trust of consumers across the country,” said Bill.

About Pet Partners

Pet Partners is the national leader in demonstrating and promoting animal-assisted therapy, activities and education. Nearly forty years since the organization’s inception, the science that proves these benefits has become indisputable. KANSAS CITY, MO., January 21, 2016, /3BL Media/ – Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Foundation, Inc. and Children International are changing what it means to prepare young people in disadvantaged areas for careers in the tourism industry.

With almost 73 million youth worldwide looking for work, according to the International Labor Organization (ILO)1, Children International’s Into Employment® program continues to make progress against these challenges by offering disadvantaged youth the chance to tap into their potential and connect their talents with the needs of the local marketplace.

In addition to a grant from the Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide Foundation, Inc., experienced management staff members from Starwood hotels teach young people the skills needed to excel in the hotel trade, including culinary arts, waiting tables and housekeeping. Additionally, the program equips youth with life skills – such as effective communication, conflict resolution and teamwork – to help them transition into their jobs and outline a career path. The training program was designed as a pilot in Ecuador and Guatemala, and has far-reaching possibilities to help youth around the globe.

“This program is a win-win for everyone involved,” said Children International’s Director of Workforce Development, Tom Owens. “The youth get the training they need to be successful; the hotels in these countries are able to hire talented, capable youth; the local economy grows; and the community enjoys more stability.”

Rocio Hammershaimb from Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc. added, “At Starwood, we have a long history of cultivating great talent. Many of our hotel management mentors once started their careers in entry-level positions and progressed through the organization. They serve as both role models and inspiration to the young professionals entering the program.”

Just last month, a graduation ceremony took place at a Sheraton hotel in Ecuador to celebrate 50 youth who completed the program. Guests from Ecuador’s Ministry of Labor, the Ministry of Tourism and several other hotels attended the event and were impressed with the program and the graduates themselves.

Frank, a recent Into Employment graduate, said, “It has been a wonderful experience…the greatest experience of my life.”

For in yourself you will find the strength you need

With a common goal of empowering women and providing an opportunity to make a difference in their lives, a partnership was born. Musana and Jane.com are working together to help women unite and stand with strength.

During the week of January 18 to January 25, Musana’s unique, handcrafted jewelry will be offered on Jane.com. All profits from the sale of the jewelry will be donated back to Musana international. Every purchase will truly empower these strong women from Musana.

Musana is unique because it employs artisans in Uganda to create exquisite jewelry. All their jewelry is handmade, high quality, and absolutely beautiful. But what we love even more than the product is the mission of Musana, which is this: to empower women to provide opportunities for their children, creating a generation of change. Incredible, right? To support their mission, they provide their artisans with a steady salary, training classes, subsidized schooling for their children, and subsidized healthcare. Each day, they show how much they care about their employees and we’re so impressed by that.

You can learn a little more about Musana and their goal to provide Ugandan Artisans a chance to provide a healthy and stable life for their families at Musana.

/3BL Media/ – MGM Resorts International (NYSE: MGM) will return for the sixth consecutive year as the presenting sponsor of the 34th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade to be held on Monday, Jan. 18 at 10 a.m. in downtown Las Vegas.

Hailed as one of the nation’s most popular annual parades celebrating the ideals and life of Dr. King, thousands are expected to line the Fourth Street parade route to commemorate Dr. King’s legacy of promoting equal and human rights. The theme for this year’s parade is “Living the Dream: The Movement Continues.”

“The Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade offers MGM Resorts a unique opportunity to stand alongside our community as we celebrate a great man’s enduring legacy,” said Jim Murren, Chairman and CEO of MGM Resorts International. “Dr. King continues to be an inspiration as we strive to uphold the ideals of equality he championed.”

Wendell P. Williams, Founder of the nonprofit Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Committee, says this year’s parade, though limited to approximately 100 entrants, promises to provide a variety of entertainment, including floats, exotic vehicles, marching bands and dancers. Public officials and representatives of area nonprofit organizations are also expected to participate in the event.

“This parade is an excellent way for the community to unite together annually in honor of Dr. King’s extraordinary life, and to celebrate the freedoms won because of his fight for equal rights,” said Williams.

In 2000, MGM Resorts became the first company in the gaming industry to adopt a formal diversity initiative. Management ranks among MGM Resorts’ 62,000 employees include about 42 percent women, and 38 percent minorities. Additionally, the company spent over $189.5 million with diverse-owned suppliers, contractors and service providers in 2014 as part of its supplier and construction diversity programs.

MGM Resorts has supported the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade since 2003. Employee volunteers from MGM Resorts are expected to turn out in full force to march in the parade with an MGM Resorts float created by the company’s events department.

The parade route will start at Fourth Street, and head north on Fourth to Ogden, where it will conclude.

The parade is part of a series of events honoring Dr. King and leading up to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, including a volunteer clean-up event involving MGM Resorts employees at Lone Mountain Park. For more information about additional activities, please visit www.kingweeklasvegas.com.

Joe Waters of the blog – Selfish Giving is back with his annual list of 10 Best Cause Marketing Promotions of 2015. As always, it was a great year for cause marketing.

“There was a noticeable spike in company-led cause marketing promotions compared to last year. Like a game of Where’s Waldo? I had to ask: “Where are all the great nonprofit cause marketing programs?” Of course, they are always there, but the advantage went to companies – at least in 2015. Perhaps nonprofits will mount a comeback in 2016.”
