Pets In Need Action League was created to address one of the most overlooked but critical areas essential for reducing the killing of shelter pets in Pinal County -- keeping them out of our shelters in the first place! Every pet that enters one of our shelters means one less kennel, and the high probability of another lost life, including the one that just arrived. Animal shelters throughout Pinal County are constantly filled with unwanted, abandoned or lost pets. They flow relentlessly through the front door -- some oblivious; others unknowingly excited; many confused. But, most with sad, lifeless eyes. A high percentage of these pets are killed due to lack of space and/or resources. Each death begins as a "failure": individuals who didn't keep the animal contained on their property in a humane manner; didn't prevent the births of an unwanted litter(s); or won't sustain a lifetime commitment to the animal; a community whose values have not sufficiently supported responsibility with and compassion toward animals; and, a shelter that has not implemented many of the strategies available to them to decrease, or even end, killing of healthy, adoptable pets. In many cases, pet parents are faced with a heart-breaking decision they never thought they would have to make -- due to a crisis, financial or otherwise. Giving up a pet for lack of ability to care for it is a traumatic experience for both the family AND the animal. But, regardless of the reason for shelter surrender of a pet, we must be proactive and find solutions to expect change to happen. So, we are enlisting you, the pet parents and supporting community, as partners in our Mission -- as this WILL take a village. Let's work together on the sources of the problem, rather than their aftermath . . . and, we will make a difference! Thank you for your compassion and making the extra effort to save lives.
