Water is one of the vital elements necessary for sustaining life. Today, the world is facing a major water crisis. Almost one billion people around the globe, lack access to safe, clean drinking water! Unsafe drinking water brings life-threatening diseases such as typhoid, cholera, and chronic diarrhea. Every minute a child around the world dies from these water-related diseases. MERCYWORLDWIDE is working towards a solution to this global water crisis and thus save lives! In April 2015, partnering with Vestergaard, a global public health company based in Switzerland, MERCYWORLDWIDE started a pilot program in Haiti to supply Lifestraw Family water filtration systems to 75 participating Haitian households. These filtration systems not only converts contaminated water into pure, safe drinking water but it also provides clean water to a family of five for three years. As a result, our pilot program has helped over 375 Haitians have access to clean water for the next 36 months! But, this is only a very tiny drop in the bucket.
