The Junior League of DeKalb County, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.Since 1934, JLD has been a positive force in DeKalb County. We have identified and met many needs in the community. Our legacy includes many well-known non-profits and charitable organizations, such as the Callanwolde Guild, Friends of Fernbank, DeKalb Rape Crisis Center, and International Women's House. In 1980, we saved the historic Mary Gay House in Decatur from destruction. It is now our League headquarters, as well as a beautiful rental facility. We train our members to be professional-level volunteers who can effectively and efficiently serve our community in various capacities. We can build a community program from its inception; coordinate an event or other program; and serve other organizations in leadership capacities, including service on boards of directors.
