Located on 135 lush acres in the heart of the San Francisco Bay Area, the Mills College Children’s School has been a model for excellence in child-centered education for more than 85 years. The oldest laboratory school on the West Coast and part of the renowned School of Education at Mills, the Children’s School serves children from age 0–10 in three developmentally appropriate programs: Infant/Toddler Preschool K–5 Elementary School The Mills College Children’s School is a special place where everyone has a stake in the value of learning, with the result that each child is engaged at her or his own level of ability, challenged to take the next step, encouraged to make hypotheses, and provided with the tools to test her or his ideas. This constructivist model of education can be seen in the infant room just as concretely as in the elementary school room for the oldest children. All learning is respected, documented, and celebrated. Here, the students are teachers just as our teachers are learners.
