Cause Description:
To whom it may concern: My name is Karen Jenkins. My husband, brother and I have started a family friendly entertainment venue (The Freedom Center) in Hickory, NC. We have been in business and running shows since August 2011. We have a family friendly wrestling company called DPA (Deathproof Alliance Wrestling). This is a family friendly wrestling company. All language is G rated and there is no bleeding or things that local wrestling has become in the recent past. We have also been hosting MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) events with Elite Championship Cage Fighting. Our facility is a 23,000 square foot handicap accessible building located in the heart of Hickory. We had made plans to start a Big Brother Big Sister mentoring program at The Freedom Center with our entertainers as well as staff. This leads me to the reason for this writing. As of recent times we have found that we have been unable to raise enough money to keep the building open. We have worked very hard to turn this shell of a building into a place where kids can go to get off the streets and stay out of trouble. Sadly we are on the verge of having to close this as the moneys are not coming in to ensure the future of The Freedom Center. We have fell upon difficult times and do not know where to turn. This leads me to you. We are a great group of people who felt that we could change and enhance the entertainment in the area and help mentor at risk kids and protect them and possibly just possibly make a difference in the world today. We are asking if there is anything that you may be able to do to help us accomplish this dream. We are desperate to make this work. We were trying to purchase the building to help with the rental of the property however being as we are a young company we found that nobody will help us. With being a female in a male dominated area I have found that we are overlooked quite a bit. However I feel that if we could get any type of help from you or your organization that it may be all we need to keep our head above water and help us accomplish our goals of helping the community and doing wonderful things.
