Cause Description:
Liberia, West Africa is a country recovering from 14 years of civil war. The conflict left the nation in economic ruin with electricity, water and sewage either limited or unavailable in most parts of the country. Despite nearly six years of peace, Liberia is still one of the poorest countries in the world with thousands of orphaned and indigent children. Nearly 300 of these children reside at the Daniel Hoover Village Mission School and the Mission for Deaf Children outside of the capital city of Monrovia. These boarding schools are maintained by African Christians Fellowship International (ACFI) and are mainly supported by individual donors and churches. Liberian families who can afford a small tuition payment each semester contribute to part of the cost of their children's education and care. By donating $40 a month through Christian Adoption Services' African Child Sponsorship program, you can help provide scholarships for children who have been orphaned or whose families cannot afford even a small tuition payment. The funds raised through this sponsorship program are used to pay for food, basic medical care, teacher and caretaker salaries, school supplies, and maintenance of the school facilities for the children.
