Hospice of Marion County, Inc. has served the residents of Marion County, Florida since 1983. Once an all-volunteer agency, we are a not-for-profit organization of 450 professionals and 535 volunteers, whose mission is providing exemplary compassionate comfort care for the terminally ill. Our team serves patients and their families by providing not only expert end-of-life care via our six medical directors, teams of RNs, and CNAs, but also ancillary support, such as counseling, chaplaincy, social services, respite for caregivers and bereavement service for up to 13 months—all covered by Medicare, Medicaid or private insurance. No one is ever refused based on ability to pay. Hospice care is available for anyone with any life-limiting disease with a prognosis of about six months. Once patients begin hospice services, they often find that their quality of life improves and their caregivers are given much-needed support. When symptoms and discomfort are under control, patients on hospice are often able to regain many enjoyable activities of life, including travel and socializing. Hospice of Marion County also has four award-winning hospice houses located throughout the county with a total of 64 beds, the most of any hospice our size in the world. For those with a prognosis of one year who may not be ready for hospice, we offer our Transitions program, which provides regular nursing assessment, volunteer services and the support of the management team to provide community resources. All of our services are available to patients throughout the county, wherever they call home, whether it is their private residence, assisted living facility, nursing home, hospital, or at one of our four state-of-the-art hospice houses.
