Cause Description:
Memorial opened its doors in 1952 as a result of a campaign by local businessmen to address the shortage of hospital beds in Chattanooga. The Hamilton County Memorial Hospital Association raised an unprecedented $3 million to build and equip Memorial Hospital. The Sisters of Charity of Nazareth accepted the challenge of operating the faith-based hospital. Memorial Health Care System honors these two groups whose selfless contributions of time and money established Memorial. Through the years, the spirit of giving has been an inspirational force in the development of Memorial. People have responded generously with continued financial support, enabling Memorial to expand programs, offer educational services and purchase innovative medical equipment.
