Cause Description:
Street Level Health Project is associated with the Oakland Worker Center, which brings together community-based organizations in a purposeful way to share organizing models and foster collaboration among unions, health providers, legal centers, and grassroots organizations. Together our mission is to enhance opportunities for low wage, no wage, and immigrant workers across diverse racial,ethic, and linguistic lines. Our Mission: Street Level Health Project is a 501c3 nonprofit organization founded in 2002 to improve the health and wellbeing of day laborers and other uninsured low-wage workers in Oakland, CA. We are a founding member of the Oakland Worker Center Consortium and located in their facilities in the San Antonio/Fruitvale District of East Oakland. Our services are without charge and without questions and are provided to all regardless of origin or status. What we do: * Free basic health screening and treatment services for primary care and work-related health problems. *Referrals and in-depth assistance for low-wage workers who have difficulty accessing health and other basic services due to language, transportation, cultural and financial barriers. * Peer counseling/mental health outreach program to the new immigrants and vulnerable workers. *Movie nights, discussion groups and other mental health-oriented programs.
