Cause Description:
New Dramatists' mission is to find gifted playwrights and give them time, space and resources free of charge to develop their craft and contribute new works to the American theatre. The company was founded in 1949 by Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lindsay & Crouse, Moss Hart, John Golden and Michaela O'Harra. Since its founding, member playwrights and alumni have won 9 Pulitzer Prizes, 20 Tony Awards and 50 Obies. Prominent alums include August Wilson, Irene Fornes, William Inge, Suzan-Lori Parks, Robert Anderson, Paula Vogel, John Patrick Shanley, Lisa Loomer and Eduardo Machado. The company gives playwrights from across the country and around the world
an artistic home in Manhattan's theatre district
where they interact and develop more than 75 new plays and musicals each season. Entirely supported by donations from the entertainment community for almost 50 years. We welcome your support!
