Women Making A Difference was founded in 2002. It is a non-profit program whose mission is "to build a community of women philanthropists, maintain a permament endowment fund, and provide grants to institutions and initiatives that advance the well-being of women and children in Charleston County (South Carolina). Membership fees, fundraising proceeds and general donations combine to enable WMD to conduct an annual grantmaking program to support non-profit organizations nominated by the full membership and selected for funding by WMD's Grants Committee. WMD members contribute both volunteer time and personal funds each year to advance WMD's mission.
