Cause Description:
NOA is an emergency shelter for abused women and children, serving Dawson and Lumpkin counties. The shelter houses victims of domestic violence who may have nowhere else to turn for help. Not only are victims sheltered from physical and emotional violence, but they are also provided with food, clothing, transportation, medicine, and personal necessities. The domestic violence program offers a 24 hour crisis line, individual and group counseling, a children’s program, legal advocacy, case management, financial assistance, parenting classes and a school prevention program. The shelter is licensed by the Department of Human Resources, with a maximum capacity of twelve beds. The maximum length of stay is three months.
