Lenoir, North Carolina

Cause Description:
SRC MISSION STATEMENT 2017 Schnauzer Rescue of the Carolinas, Inc. is a reputable nonprofit rescue organization founded in the year 2003 whose purpose is to save homeless Schnauzers (Mini, Standard, or Giant) and Honorary Schnauzers from abuse, neglect and ultimate euthanasia. All volunteers of this organization (currently approximately 100 strong) are committed to assure the best possible life for each canine saved from the horrific effects of abuse and neglect. Many of these dogs are the victims of puppy mills, strays which have been abandoned by uncaring persons, or even owners no longer financially able to provide for their beloved companions. Stringently monitored approval processes are conducted prior to placing any of these rescues in adoptive homes. Once vetted and evaluated by SRC foster parents who have undergone this approval process, these rescued canines are allowed to be adopted by persons within the NC and SC region and bordering states. This is done in a concentrated effort to assure placement of each dog in a stable and loving home that has been thoroughly checked out. Follow-up checks are made for each of these adopted dogs during their natural lifetime plus SRC stands behind our adoptions and will reclaim or accept their return at anytime during their lifetime with ample notice. SRC’s commitment to each rescued canine just begins when the rescued dog is bro SRC ’s many approved veterinarians who handle a thorough medical evaluation and address any medical needs the canine may have. Each Schnauzer or Honorary Schnauzer is given a general examination, is de-wormed, given a heartworm blood evaluation, and scheduled for spay/neuter. The dog is then treated medically for any necessary ailments to assure their comfort and health. Surgeries such as bladder stone removal, necessary tumor removal, and occasionally even cataract removal have been performed to assure the best possible health of our rescued canines. Heart-worm positive dogs are given treatment for that condition. All these procedures are done upon our vets’ recommendations and are dependent on the health of the canine involved and the availability of finances at the time. SRC is not able to go into debt and must depend on the donations of committed animal lovers to assist these deserving canines. Necessary vaccinations are given according to state regulations. Every canine SRC takes into its safe haven is also micro-chipped for its future protection. Since SRC’s inception in June, 2003, this organization has successfully rescued and rehomed more than 4000 amazing Schnauzers and Honorary Schnauzers to caring adoptive parents who have successfully gone through our approval process which includes an application, vet reference and home visit. SRC also conducts low cost micro-chip clinics for the public to help citizens that otherwise could not afford this service. SRC also maintains both a website and a Facebook page which provides educational information to help others learn how best to provide a healthy environment for their canine regardless of the breed they favor. There is an interest-line available for anyone that wants to receive informative emails so that SRC may keep the public informed about subjects that are relevant to today’s issues involving canines and their health and let them know about dogs in need. SRC also networks with other rescue organizations whenever possible to provide an organization that helps to meets the needs of homeless and needy canines all over the United States. The future goal of SRC is to help as many Schnauzers and Honorary Schnauzers as possible to go lead happy, healthy lives in homes who are both familiar with and willing to provide for their needs and desires.
