Cause Description:
Burning Coal Theatre Company is a professional theatre company, which employs some Equity actors. We do Literate, Visceral, Affecting theatre that includes new plays, contemporary plays, and forefront productiosn of classics. The plays we choose emphasize language, even if that language is non-traditional; we do plays that are emotionally affecting as well as intellectually stimulating, and we choose plays that treat internationally and nationally important issues, and not in a one-sided manor. We beleive strongly in true dialogue about issues, and that is what our productions provide. We have a national reputation, and employ nationally and internationally recognized artists as well as local artist, giving the local and regional artists the opportunity to work with advanced-career professionals. We tour a classic each year to local high schools and universities, and hold internship programs with local and regional high-schools and colleges, including the Raleigh HBCUs. We keep our ticket prices low for availability at all economic levels, and hold one 'Pay-What-You-Can' day on each production. Each production is audio described and sign-language interpreted for at least one performance. All performances are accessible to the physically challenged.
