Sasha Bruce Youthwork is a youth and family services agency. The mission is to provide comprehensive and coordinated services that meet the urgent needs of young people at risk and their families in Washington, DC. SBY began in l974 as a counseling service for runaways and homeless youth who were on the streets. We have expanded into l4 programs each of which were developed in response to a gap in service to at risk youth and their families. We offer services to more than 1200 youth and 5,000 family members. The service are directed toward homeless, runaway and abandoned youth; troubled youth referred by the juvenile court; teenage mothers and other young people at risk. We provide emergency shelter, outreach and home based counseling, Independent Living programs including for teenage parents if young people cannot return home, programs that are an alternative to juvenile prosecution, AIDS and drug abuse prevention services and we are a sponsor of a charter school, among other programs.
