St. John's Episcopal Hospital South Shore is the cornerstone of Episcopal Health Services. A 332 bed acute care teaching hospital serving the Rockaway Peninsula in Queens and the Five Towns Communities in Nassau County. St. John's is the largest primary care provider in the community. The State has designated St. John's as the 911 Receiving Hospital for the Five Towns and Far Rockaway communities. We have a Level II Trauma Center that services more than 6,000 patients per year. The Hospital's Emergency Department is open seven days per week, 24 hours a day and is staffed by full time board-certified physicians in all of the major specialties. Over 30,000 patients come to Emergency department annually. The Hospital has its own x-ray and CAT scan facilities to make certain that patients get the diagnostic services they need quickly. In the Emergency Department, as elsewhere at St. John's, no one in need of medical treatment is ever turned away, regardless of ability to pay. This commitment permeates every corner of the institution. More than $6 million of St. John's annual budget is devoted annually to the care of the indigent and working poor. St. John's is in the midst of a renovation program that will culminate with the grand opening of a newly re-designed 10th floor in early June. Overlooking the oceanfront, with an elegant ambiance and attention to every detail, including specially designed VIP rooms, the 10th floor, a $450,000.00 renovation project, lends its unmistakable presence to St John's and serves as the model for renovation of all patient floors in the near future.
