Cause Description:
Fresh Start provides Walnut Creek low income, poor and homeless residents the necessary resources that will enable them to make a "Fresh Start." Fresh Start began in 1999 with a private donation and the agency is largely funded by private resources. We have helped hundreds of people in many ways. Some specific examples include: housing, helping people find drug and rehab programs, people living in shelters or on the streets are assisted with everyday needs - transportation, clothing, showers, food,job training and employment services and advocacy services for people who are seeking public benefits. Most importantly the agency is a resource for individuals seeking a starting point or seeking assistance to resume the path they were on prior to losing a job, a home or some other experience that made them homeless. The agency is staffed by one dedicated individual who has worked with poor and homeless people for more than 20 years. There is a great sense of community and warmth at Fresh Start...and a lot of laughter. The only other people who help operate the agency are volunteers and in many cases they are the same people who have been assisted by Fresh Start. It is truly a "one of a kind" program. Fresh Start works for the people it serves. Miracles happen - one person at a time. Thank you for any support you may give us.
