Central American Refugee Center - CARECEN (NY) is a non-profit, tax-exempt community organization, founded in 1983, that provides immigration legal services and advocacy to the large Central American refugee community located in the New York metropolitan area, primarily in the Nassau and Suffolk counties of Long Island. From help in applying for permanent residence to citizenship and political asylum representation, CARECEN provided low-cost legal assistance to more than 5,000 area immigrants in 1999.
