The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy Foundation supports the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa, providing funding and supporting its alumni.  The Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls was founded in 2007 as a boarding school that would accept the most promising girls from disadvantaged backgrounds across South Africa.   According to Oprah, “through exemplary service to their communities, [the girls] have demonstrated their potential to effect positive and enduring change. The Academy will nurture this potential, and raise the next generation of  transformative South African leaders.”

Pura Vida Bracelets was born in Costa Rica, where the phrase Pura Vida symbolizes the happiness and beautiful moments that can be had there.  Pura Vida Bracelets supports local artisans in Costa Rica, helping provide them with full time jobs.  They have a line of “charity bracelets” which are dedicated to raising money for various causes.  Each bracelet has a cause associated with it, and 20% of the sale price is donated to that cause.

Pura Vida Bracelets participates in One Percent for the Planet, donating 1% of all their proceeds to the Surfrider Foundation to help protect and preserve beaches and oceans across the globe.  Pura Vida recently raised over $30,000 for the victims of the Sandy Hook elementary shooting by donating 100% of their profits.

Travelocity has two different initiatives to accomplish their goal of a better world – Green Travel and Voluntourism.  For their greening of the globe, they highlight their multitude of eco-friendly hotels, as well as offer hybrid cars and carbon offsets.  To have a more local impact, Travelocity offers a unique program that supports travelers who volunteer at their destination.  Each quarter Travelocity awards a $5000 volunteer vacation grant to a globetrotter who demonstrates their passion for volunteering and travel.  For normal travelers who want to give back to the place they’re visiting, Travelocity can also help identify top volunteer organizations.

Diamond Nexus creates eco-friendly, conflict-free diamonds and jewelry.  Diamond Nexus also supports various educational initiatives around Milwaukee, with plans to expand that support to the Chicagoland area.  Their most recent fundraising effort raised money for a Summer Youth Program for the students of Greater Holy Temple Christian Academy.  A packed event at The Hamilton in Milwaukee, Diamonds in the Rough, led to over $3500 raised for the programs this summer.
