iGive.com celebrates our Cause’s Good Works

The James Connection is a charitable 5 (c) (3) organization that has built an orphanage in Manipur India. Angels’ Place welcomed 60 destitute children on Feb 7, 2005. Today there are 161 youth being sheltered, nourished, instructed in God’s principles & educated in a private school.

James Connection

The original children are moving into their adult lives & some are pursuing higher education. In a recent letter, one child requested a photo of his sponsor family. He wanted the photo so that he could say to others that “these people are the builders of my future”.

“You can read stories about the children & learn how your iGive donations are changing lives. Sponsorships are $35.00/month, but meet only part of the financial need. With your iGive donations, you too can be a Builder of a child’s future!” – iGive supporter Diane F.

To date, over $400 has been raised through iGive.com by Diane & her fellow supporters.

Every purchase plants a tree.

Changing the world sounds big. None of us can change the world alone, but when we all work together, a lot of small choices can make a huge impact – every step makes a difference.  This is Bambeco’s philosophy and also iGive.com’s (by changing shopping for good!).

According to Oxford University research, planting and growing trees is the best way to remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and reverse global warming.

Bambeco is proud to partner with American Forests, the oldest national nonprofit conservation organization in the country, for a joint commitment to restore and protect forests and minimize climate change.

American Forests Logo

With every Bambeco purchase, American Forests will plant a tree. That means every earth friendly purchase adds another tree to our landscape and another step towards counteracting climate change.

Since they launched the “Every Purchase Plants a Tree” initiative last November, they’ve planted over 20,000 trees—enough trees to supply oxygen for 40,000 people, save and clean 2.4 billion gallons of water and absorb 480 tons of carbon dioxide per year!

We are unwavering in our commitment to create and source products that are crafted in ways that cause less harm to the environment and reduce our carbon footprint.  For more information, check out Bambeco’s Sustainable Living Blog.

Together, we’ll grow forests. Together, we’ll change shopping for good.

Together we can do so much.

Charot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA)

As iGive.com celebrates 20 years in business, we are highlighting some of our most successful causes & members.  We asked you to share your stories, and here’s one of our most inspiring!

iGive.com has provided the Charcot-Marie-Tooth Association (CMTA) with an invaluable source of funding for community services, such as patient conferences and a nationwide branch system. Our members love iGive because the money spent in favorite on-line retailers goes right back into the Association, helping those who need it most.

CMTA - www.cmtausa.org

CMTA Patient & Family conferences change lives by bringing researchers, clinicians and people with this degenerative nerve disease together, to learn, to hope, to relieve the isolation of living with a rare disease. Our dynamic branch leaders work hard to bring CMT specialists to the public and provide much-needed support to all our members.

The CMTA is sincerely grateful to work with iGive, as the extra revenue generated through this partnership has helped thousands of people across the nation. To the folks at iGive.com-we look forward to 20 more years of great non-profit work!

Sincerely,

Elizabeth Ouellette Board of DirectorsStand to end CMT

Thanks for the note, Elizabeth!

You can follow CMTA’s progress on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook & more. And don’t forget to tell us the story of YOUR cause on iGive!  We’d love to celebrate your success, too.

Make-A-Wish Germany fulfills the long-desired wishes of children and young adults between the ages of three and 18 years, who suffer from life-threatening illnesses. With this, they and their families experience happy and unforgettable moments, which give them hope, strength and joy of life to carry them as they fight against their illness. For iGive merchant partner, Condor Airlines, it is a particular honor to be able to make a small contribution.

In 2016, to celebrate its 60th anniversary, Germany’s most popular leisure airline flew at least one child to a dream destination for a short period of time out of their everyday life, which is too oft determined by illness.

A few trips included:

The 11-year-old Tomàs, who is suffering from cancer, and was happy to visit a sloth farm in Costa Rica. In June, 5-year-old Alicia, who is suffering from cystic fibrosis, finally visited her grandmother in the Dominican Republic.  The next dream that Condor fulfilled in cooperation with Make-A-Wish in August, belonged to Yasin from Munich. The 14-year-old, who is ill with leukemia, simply wanted to spend a carefree holiday with his family in Majorca. “With all my heart I wish for a hotel with a swimming pool”, said Yasin, full of anticipation for the journey.

To start the year off, we celebrate Kimberly L. who’s raised over $1,040 since joining iGive in 2007.  Kimberly is currently raising money for RefugeeOne, a Chicago-based resource for refugees fleeing war, terror, and persecution so they may build new lives of safety, dignity, and self-reliance.

We reached out to Kimberly and she shared these thoughts with us:

“Over the years I’ve supported several theatre companies in Chicago with my iGive shopping. I love seeing shows and working on shows and knowing that every little bit helps bring the magic of theatre to life.  Recently, however, some friends and I have begun taking up collections of household goods to donate to RefugeeOne and the last time we collected items, I decided to add the cause to iGive.  Now when I buy a teapot or dish towels to donate to RefugeeOne, the money I spent on those items also generates a donation via iGive! Win-win!!”

Thanks Kimberly, for being part of 20 years of giving with iGive.com.

Vision Service Plan (VSP), the California Optometric Association, Adventist Health, the Kings County Action Organization (KCAO) and the Tulare County Office of Education  have teamed up to bring the mobile eye care clinic Mobile Eyes to Central Valley California cities like Lindsay, Hanford and McFarland. California State Senator Andy Vidak has made  been a critical advocate in this effort. Vidak has made it his mission to help ensure those in the rural parts of California Senate District 14 have access to eye care.

The 2016 Mobile Eyes venture was the best to date in the Valley. In 2014, Mobile Eyes conducted 57 free eye exams and provided 80 vouchers to patients in Fresno and McFarland. In 2015, Mobile Eyes served nearly 80 patients in Hanford and Lindsay, and provided 200 vouchers.

At VSP Global®, our mission is simple: We help people see. In 2016, they brought eye care to those in need by co-hosting multi-day events in 10 cities across the U.S. For each event, VSP will provide no-cost eye exams and glasses for qualifying adults and children in need through our VSP Mobile Eyes® program. Beyond 2016, VSP continues to work with the cities to determine how to create sustainable access to eye care services even when the mobile eye clinics are gone. This will support VSP’s larger goal of providing access to eye care to 1 million individuals by 2020.

Sprint Team members, joined by Lieutenant Governor Evelyn Sanguinetti and Illinois Public School faculty, announced new investments to Illinois Public Schools under the White House initiative, ConnectED. The high-speed LTE broadband service Sprint brings to these schools will help more than 4,200 Illinois students stay connected at-home through a Wi-Fi hotspot. The value of Sprint’s service during the term is estimated at more than $8.09 million.“Without internet access, millions of children, especially minority students living in low-income communities, would be left behind.

Last year, Sprint and Governor Rauner announced the first few Illinois Public Schools to take advantage of the ConnectED initiative, where Sprint provided more than $3 million in free broadband service. This announcement includes additional Illinois Public Schools with a larger investment and a larger number of students impacted. Sprint pledged to provide wireless broadband connectivity for 50,000 low-income K-12 students across the U.S. as part of the White House initiative, ConnectED – a public and private effort to get technology into classrooms and into the hands of teachers and students to help bridge the “digital divide.”

Sprint is proud to provide free broadband service to the following Illinois Public Schools:

  • Leyden High School District 212
  • Hillside School District 93
  • Maine Township High School District 207
  • Township High School District 214
  • Glenbard Township High Schools District #87
  • Herscher CUSD2
  • La Grange District 105
  • Schaumburg Community Consolidated District 54
  • Consolidated High School District 230
  • Wheaton Warrenville CUSD 200
  • Kildeer Countryside CCSD 96
  • East Alton-Wood River SD 14
  • Community High School District 99
  • Huntley Community School District 158
  • Elmhurst CUSD 205
  • Skokie School District 73.5
  • Oak Park & River Forest SD 200

In addition to the ConnectED initiative, Sprint has donated $250,000 to fund an expansion of the Connect Chicago Challenge – citywide effort to make Chicago the most skilled, most connected, most dynamic digital city in the world. The Connect Chicago Challenge will increase digital access through comprehensive programming, outreach and public access in neighborhoods throughout the city.

“Sprint has a long history of supporting initiatives that use innovative technologies, services and devices to enhance educational opportunities,” said Jim Mills, Sprint president of Illinois and Wisconsin. “During this critical time for high school students, Sprint is proud to provide free broadband services so that there are no interruptions in their learning.”

For students who do not have access to the Internet at home, it significantly limits opportunities to complete homework assignments, research next-level learning, and apply for jobs. In the state of Illinois, about 54 percent of the students live in low income households and qualify for free or reduced lunch.

kay jewelers logo

Kay® Jewelers has announced the launch of the #SingForStJudeDonation campaign. Guests can help support St. Jude by uploading a video of themselves singing the Kay Jewelers jingle – “Every Kiss Begins with Kay” – to the Kay Facebook page or on Twitter and using the hash tag, #SingForStJudeDonation. In celebration of the Kay 100th anniversary, $100 will be donated to St. Jude for every video posted from now through December 24, up to $50,000 in total.

Since the inception of the partnership with St. Jude in 1999, Kay has raised nearly $53 million dollars to help St. Jude advance research and treatment of childhood cancer. These funds are critical given that no family ever receives a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live. Most recently, Kay and St. Jude announced the latest collaborative effort, the Kay Research and Care Center, a six story building in the heart of St. Jude’s campus. The Kay Research & Care Center ushered in a new era of research, education, collaboration, care and treatment for the kids at St. Jude.

In addition to participating in the #SingForStJudeDonation campaign, guests can also support Kay and its efforts benefitting St. Jude through the annual plush campaign. This year two plush animals — Kit, an adorable plush bear, and Kobie, a cuddly plush puppy — are available at all Kay stores for $13.99 each. All profits, no less than $7 of the purchase price of each “Kit” and “Kobie,” will be donated to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
