iGive.com celebrates our Cause’s Good Works

The executive director of Maryland Horse Rescue sent us their story:

Maryland Horse Rescue is a 100% volunteer, certified 501(c)3 organization that rescues unwanted equine. Although we mostly take in horses, we accept any equine including mules and donkeys. We specialize in the care of blind and senior horses and our volunteers are dedicated to giving the very best care to our residents. We strive to educate the community on the value of a horse’s life and do a lot of work with the community and special needs groups.

We do our best to rehabilitate and re-home our horses, but sadly people are always looking for that “perfect” horse, so we promise to let our residents live out their lives in a safe, loving environment. We are a NO KILL shelter and only euthanize when it is absolutely necessary with the close advice of our veterinarian.

Mission:

Our founder’s first horse came from a badly abusive situation, but despite his horrible past, she taught him to become rideable. As years passed, she grew more and more disheartened as she watched people buy and sell horses like used appliances; it just didn’t seem right. The search for the elusive “perfect” horse meant many horses were being thrown away for minor defects that could be fixed. She found this tragic and it just seemed to her that someone needed to act as a safety “Net” for those horses, so “HorseNet” was born. In 2016 HorseNet Horse Rescue was rebranded as Maryland Horse Rescue. Our mission is still the same,  to facilitate the rescue, rehabilitation, and re-homing of abused and abandoned horses in Maryland.

We firmly believe that every horse can perform a job of some kind, no matter what their limitation, and that they all deserve a second chance. This is the basis on which Maryland Horse Rescue will continue.

Since joining iGive.com, members supporting Maryland Horse Rescue have earned over $1600 for this #GoodCause!

February is the month to celebrate love – and we’re pretty sure that North Texas Rabbit Sanctuary LOVES Joanie D.  Since joining iGive in 2005, Joanie’s online shopping has benefited NTRS to the tune of just over $1,000!  That’s a lot of treats for a lot of floppy-eared friends!

All the rabbits that come into NTRS’s care, are given a chance to live and look forward to being adopted into warm, loving homes with caring people.
We celebrate Joanie and all our iGive members who made the choice to make a difference.  Since iGive launched in 1997, over $9M dollars has been raised for over 30,000 causes.

Kittlyland Cat & Kitten Rescue

Kittyland Cat and Kitten Rescue came into being when the shelter that had operated on the property for 30 years had to move, due to zoning changes. The dogs moved out to another shelter but the cats had no where to go.

“It was time to start our own Sanctuary,” Ann Woods, Executive Director of Kittyland told us. “We were deeded the land and are in the process of refurbishing some very old buildings to make a comfortable home for Cats and Kittens in danger. We are the only Cat and Kitten rescue in our valley that has a facility to accommodate just Cats and Kittens. We offer Sanctuary to older felines and to cats who need medical help, we are a no kill shelter. We find homes for healthy cats and kittens,we rely totally on donations which is why iGive is so important to us and made so easy for supporters to participate.”

Thanks to all who support this worthy cause, they’ve earned over $450 through their iGive partnership.

To start the year off, we celebrate Kimberly L. who’s raised over $1,040 since joining iGive in 2007.  Kimberly is currently raising money for RefugeeOne, a Chicago-based resource for refugees fleeing war, terror, and persecution so they may build new lives of safety, dignity, and self-reliance.

We reached out to Kimberly and she shared these thoughts with us:

“Over the years I’ve supported several theatre companies in Chicago with my iGive shopping. I love seeing shows and working on shows and knowing that every little bit helps bring the magic of theatre to life.  Recently, however, some friends and I have begun taking up collections of household goods to donate to RefugeeOne and the last time we collected items, I decided to add the cause to iGive.  Now when I buy a teapot or dish towels to donate to RefugeeOne, the money I spent on those items also generates a donation via iGive! Win-win!!”

Thanks Kimberly, for being part of 20 years of giving with iGive.com.

Kim C. is the first iGive.com Super Shopper of 2017 – our 20th Anniversary!  Kim has chosen to support Lucky Day Animal Rescue of Colorado, and in just one month earned over $180 for this worthy cause.

Pimental Laboratory Cedars Sinai Medical Center

iGive member Ting C. dropped us a note about a cause that just joined iGive in October, 2016.

“Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) is one of the most common chronic medical conditions. People with IBS have been shown to have specific changes in luminal bacterial contents, the most common of which is small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), a condition whereby coliform bacterial counts in the small bowel become excessive. PLCMC is in the forefront of important research to cure SIBO.

This is why iGive.”

Until recently, a patient diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) was likely to be prescribed antidepressant medication and sent to a psychologist. IBS was thought to be primarily stress–induced. At Cedars-Sinai, we understand that this disease is not “in your head” which is why we are focusing our efforts on identifying the causes.

Based in LA, the Pimentel Laboratory has earned over $150 by its supporters shopping through iGive.

“The shared objective of all The Frostig Center’s unique programs is to enrich and enhance the lives of children with learning disabilities. We were founded in 1951 by Marianne Frostig, Ph.D., who was a pioneer, leader and advocate in education for children with learning disabilities. In fact, she was helping children with learning disabilities before there was even a medical term for this diagnosis.”

iGive.com & Williams Sonoma have teamed up to provide Susan with a $150 Gift Card, as a thank you for all she’s done on behalf of her cause.
